Garden at Werribee is well worth visiting, not only because of the quality of the garden but also because of its unique background.
Over three years a small group of people with disabilities converted a vacant block of almost two acres into a wonderful new garden for the whole Wyndham community.
This garden is open to the public seven days a week, free of charge. Enjoy lunch, coffee or a delicious snack in the new sun filled cafe, and be inspired to create your own garden paradise at home with plants from the Nursery.
Income to provide ongoing employment for people with a disability is earned through the sale of plants, hire of the garden for weddings and other functions, and by undertaking landscaping and garden maintenance elsewhere.
Outstanding features of the garden include:
- a large sunken herb garden surrounded by climbing roses
- large pond lined with dozens of water lilies and a range of other aquatic plants
- smaller pond feeding a stream meandering through the garden
- eight metre rotunda
- lawn, picnic area and barbecue
- a fascinating array of colourful and fragrant plants
You can visit the garden at,
39 Ballan Road, Werribee.
